History:
Oyo State, which bears the sobriquet the
“Peace-Setter”, came into existence
consequent upon state creation exercise
embarked upon since Nigeria’s
independent in 1960.Going down memory
lane, Western Region was one of the
three Regions created by the McPherson
constitution of 1954 which introduced a
high level of autonomy for the regions.
Western region which was by the late
sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo as the first
Head of Government and later Premier,
become self-governing in 1957 as a
prelude to political independent of the
country in 1960.
The acquisition of the sobriquet “The
Pace-State State” by Oyo State cannot be
regarded as Fortuitous, self – imposing
or window dressing. The state has a rich
cultural traditional, vibrant economic
climate and intimidation political
history which become a show-piece for
other component parts of the country.
Oyo state is synonymous with milestone
achievement, recording “FIRST” in many
aspects of human
endeavour, particularly in the
establishment of infrastructures, which
were later copied by other state of the
Federation.
